Wer Taiwan als Radsportdestination erkunden will, kommt am Alishan-Massiv nicht vorbei. Nachdem ich bereits auch den Wuling Pass erfahren habe – jenes Monument, das einen auf 3.275 Meter Höhe führt –, bot der Alishan National Forest eine ganz andere, fast schon sinnliche Perspektive auf die Bergwelt der Insel. Während der Wuling durch seine raue Schlichtheit besticht, ist die Auffahrt auf der Route 18 eine Fahrt durch die kulturelle Seele Taiwans.

Ich sitze hier, das neue Jahr hat gerade begonnen und ich lasse meine Gedanken in Richtung 2026 schweifen. Wenn ich heute ein Jahr zurückblicke, hatte ich große Pläne für 2025 – doch dann kam alles anders. Nach meiner Rückkehr nach Deutschland im Februar hat mich eine schwere Covid-Erkrankung komplett ausgebremst. Bis in den Juni hinein hatte ich mit den Folgen zu kämpfen.

The Suhua Highway is for sure one of the most spectacular, but also one of the most dangerous sections of Taiwan’s famous Cycle Route No. 1. Für alle Radsportbegeisterten, die Herausforderungen auf langen Distanzen suchen, bietet das Programm zahlreiche Möglichkeiten (Frauen-Brevet, Abendstart, Gravel-Brevet, 600 km Brevet mit mehr als 8000 hm). Mit Distanzen von 200 bis über 1.200 Kilometern, verteilt über ganz Deutschland, ist garantiert für jeden etwas dabei.

Wir haben uns heute vorgenommen, ein Everesting zu fahren – 8848 Höhenmeter am Stück, an einem Berg, immer wieder hoch, solange bis du die Höhe vom Mount Everest erreicht hast. In unserem Fall war der Schneeberg das Ziel.
Ja, man kommt schon weit herum bei einer ALPI 4000. Für mich mein erster Super-Brevet und die längste Distanz bisher. Ich starte ganz simple mit der Einstellung, zu fahren, bis es nicht mehr geht. Oder das Rad auseinander fällt 😉 was soll die übertriebene Planerei, wo doch über eine derart lange Distanz viel unvorhersehbares passieren kann – und auch passieren wird. Also sehe ich mir vorher den Kurs an, alle 16 Etappen, lasse aber genug Spielraum für das Abenteuer.
Der Wuling Pass ist kein gewöhnlicher Gebirgspass – er ist ein Mythos. Hoch oben, auf 3.275 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel, windet sich die höchste asphaltierte Straße Taiwans durch die Zentralberge. Wer hier hinauftritt, bewegt sich nicht nur durch wechselnde Klimazonen, sondern auch durch die Geschichte des Landes. Ursprünglich war der Pass ein Pfad der Atayal, einer indigenen Bergbevölkerung.
