We are Cyclists – campaign for safety and respect to cyclists on the road #givespacepasssafe

With the international campaign “We are Cyclists” the cycling blog Audax-Franconia.de advocates for a safer and more respectful coexistence on the road. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 41,000 to 44,000 cyclists die in traffic accidents each year. This means an average of about 110 cyclists per day worldwide lose their lives in traffic accidents. The initiative calls on all road users to recognize cyclists as fellow human beings – as parents, colleagues, friends, neighbors, and ordinary people just like you and me. The goal is to increase safety and, through greater understanding, make the roads safer for all participants. This campaign was created by Audax-Franconia.de, initiated by its founder, Bernd Rücker.

The core message is: “Give Space. Pass Safe.” With simple but effective words, the campaign calls for more consideration and caution towards cyclists on the road.

Why the campaign is important

Cycling is more than just a means of transportation; it symbolizes freedom, adventure, sustainability, and community worldwide. Every cyclist embodies these values. However, cyclists are often particularly vulnerable on the road. Despite their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and promoting a healthier lifestyle, cyclists remain one of the most vulnerable groups of road users. They rely on the respect and awareness of other road users to stay safe.

This campaign aims to raise awareness of the vulnerability and value of every cyclist. It calls on all road users to recognize cyclists as fellow human beings – as parents, colleagues, friends, neighbors, and ordinary people who deserve a safe space on the road. The campaign seeks to ensure that the road is not only a place for traffic but also a place for mutual respect and understanding. It is about recognizing that respect and consideration in traffic are not just obligations but a matter of empathy and compassion.

By raising awareness and promoting mutual understanding, the campaign hopes to foster a shift that will lead to safer roads for all road users. This initiative advocates for more consideration and respect towards cyclists, creating a safer and better coexistence on our streets.
